During our time in New Zealand, in November, my husband and I were very excited to hike the Routeburn Track. We had hiked (tramped) the track 22 years ago on our honeymoon, and it has been one of our favorite memories over the years. The Routeburn Track is a world-renowned 32 km tramping (hiking) track on the South Island, classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as a “Great Walk” — premier tracks through areas of some of the best scenery in the country, ranging from beaches to dense rain forests and alpine terrain. We did not do the entire multi-day hike, which includes overnight stays in one of the four huts provided along the trail. Instead, we retraced the same hike we did 22 years ago, which took us about 4 hours and was primarily through rain forests. The day we hiked it rained almost non-stop (we had our rain gear on), but it still provided us was incredible views and memories. Here are a few images from our hike.
