While Amsterdam was beautiful and interesting to visit, one of the highlights of our trip to the Netherlands was driving outside of the area to visiting several little towns in the provinces of Holland and Flavoland. The images in this set include the following locations: the town of Delft, known for its blue porcelain; the historic fishing village of Marken, with its black and green houses near the harbor; Alkmaar, know for its cheese and cheese market along with many quaint shops; the car-free fairy tale village of Giethoorn, with its pristine houses and yards, is also called Venice of the Netherlands due to its many canals; and Zaanse Schans, best known for its collection of windmills and wooden houses. I’ll post the windmills of Kinderdijk and a few images from the large port city of Rotterdam separately.
